The Megafon company is one of the pioneers of the Russian market of mobile devices released under the brand of a mobile operator. In many Western countries, this format of electronics sales has existed for many years; in our country it is only gaining momentum. According to many experts, the capabilities of the very first tablet from the operator - the Login device - were very modest.

In turn, the second product, according to experts, should have significantly more functions. The new tablet should have more impressive characteristics, experts believe. Moreover, many experts are sure that the operator launched its second “tablet” on the market with a specific goal: to make the device one of the sales leaders in its segment. Due to what characteristics will a device from Megafon compete with solutions from other Big Three players?

Design, dimensions

The first thing we will start studying Login 2" is the characteristics of the case. Its main body is made of black smooth plastic. The edging of the case is silver. The tablet has quite small dimensions. Its length is 198 mm, width - 122, thickness - 12. The device is quite It’s convenient to hold with one hand. There is a volume control key at the top, next to it is the power button. The main part of the slots is on the right side. There is an audio jack and a microUSB output. There is an external slot for microSD, as well as for a SIM card. standard size. The manufacturer decided to make the case one-piece. Experts note the high quality of the tablet body.

Display

The screen is covered with a plastic shell that is quite scratch-resistant. Display diagonal - 7 inches, resolution - 1024 by 600 pixels, manufacturing technology - TFT, type - capacitive. Up to 262 thousand colors are supported. Since the matrix technology is not the most modern, the picture quality may vary at different viewing angles.

At the same time, experts note that for most users this feature will not cause discomfort, since almost always viewing videos or photos is carried out with the display in the front position. Which, in turn, provides very good picture quality.

Performance

The tablet has a fairly modern MSM 8225 chipset with two cores and a clock frequency of 1 GHz. RAM - 512 MB, 4 GB available on the built-in flash drive (actually about 1 GB available). Can the Megafon Login 2 tablet be considered sufficiently productive? The characteristics of its hardware components are relatively modest. Will this affect its competitiveness?

Experts are confident that the above resources are sufficient to launch and operate correctly most modern applications. It’s more difficult with games - three-dimensional ones will be launched with great difficulty. However, according to experts, this brand of tablet is absolutely not a “gamer” tablet. And therefore, game support here is one of the least significant criteria. The tablet copes quite well with its main task - providing access to the Internet using the built-in browser, viewing web pages, photos, listening to music, playing videos.

Battery

Where the Megafon Login 2 tablet is really not much inferior to competing solutions is its battery characteristics. The device is equipped with a battery capacity that is quite large for its class of devices - 3 thousand mAh. At the same time, experts note, the MSM 8225 chipset, as well as a number of other hardware solutions, are considered one of the most energy efficient. As a result, the smartphone's battery life is ensured for a fairly long time. Some experts recorded 4-5 days of average intensity use of the device before the battery ran out. Many experts note the high speed of battery charging - within 2 hours.

Camera

There are two cameras in the phone - the main one and the front one. The first has a resolution of 2 megapixels; it is not equipped with an autofocus function. Should the camera be considered an important criterion for the functionality of such a device as the Megafon Login 2 tablet? Characteristics of photos and videos - how important are they for the user in this case? To answer this question, let's study a small discussion that arose in the online environment between separate groups of experts and users.

Many users speak not very positively about the quality of video communication using a smartphone. However, there are also “lawyers”. Their position is this: the device is designed primarily for use in 3G networks. Even if a smartphone had a powerful camera, the bandwidth (and stability) of the mobile Internet channel, most likely, in most cases would not be enough for comfortable work. And therefore, it’s even good that the quality of the video stream in this case is low: already at the hardware level it adapts to the resources of the Internet channel. It is therefore better to communicate with the interlocutor with a not very detailed, but stable picture than with one that has a high resolution, but with constant interruptions in communication.

The same can be said about the camera functions in terms of photo and video creation. High-quality multimedia samples have a large weight in megabytes, and therefore are poorly adapted to transmission when using 3G channels. The option in which one person transfers a photo not in ideal quality to another is probably more preferable than the one in which the user is unable to transfer a large file at all due to an unstable Internet connection.

Software

No sensations regarding the software that the Megafon Login 2 tablet is equipped with. The firmware here is Android OS. There are very few pre-installed applications, but anything you need can be found in the Google Play catalog. There is a built-in file manager, etc..

Among the useful branded applications from Megafon are “Money” (a useful payment tool in some cases), “Navigator”, as well as several system utilities. There is also a Yandex browser (along with the standard one included in the OS). There is an interface for listening to radio broadcasts in the FM range; experts note its ease of use and stability of operation.

Connection

Like many other devices from Megafon, this tablet is compatible with a SIM card only from this operator. True, this rule applies only in cases where the user is located in Russia. If you try to insert a SIM card from a foreign telecom operator abroad, the tablet will work.

The secret is that experts believe that the firmware installed on the Megafon Login 2 tablet is supplemented with a branded software module that can recognize SIM cards of the operator’s direct competitors. Thus, experts believe, Megafon deliberately opposes the use of the device by owners of only those SIM cards that are issued by a certain group of market players.

Regarding wireless interfaces, the device operates in 2G and 3G communication standards, supports connection via Wi-Fi (and can itself be an access point). Experts rated the quality of communication after testing in all available channels as high. The characteristics given by the owners who tested the Megafon Login 2 tablet, and reviews regarding communication stability, generally coincide with expert assessments. The device is well adapted to perform the main task - accessing the Internet via a mobile channel.

In the first part of the review, I described the Login 2 package, the general characteristics of the tablet, its appearance and technical characteristics. In the second part of the review of the MegaFon Login 2 tablet, I would like to pay attention to the software component of the device out of the box, performance tests and the possibility of improving technical performance.

So, first of all, let's look at what is installed on the tablet. In addition to standard Android and Google applications, the device has a software package from MegaFon and Yandex: a mobile wallet with a layout that is clearly not for 1024x600 resolution; The “Replace the beep” program is not relevant for me; the "MegaFon - Navigator" service with a rather pleasant interface, but functioning only via the mobile Internet (we will get to it in the next part of the review); GetUpps app! - analogue of Google Market; as well as a browser and search bar. In general, the standard software was no surprise.

Then let's go to the Android settings menu.

Next, we will perform a number of optional standard procedures for a new Android device: enable USB debugging, the ability to install applications from unknown sources, connect Wi-Fi and synchronize the tablet with your Google account. If you do not have a Google account, then the system will prompt you to create one.

Now the Play Market is working, you can download and install any applications. First of all, I downloaded the AnTuTu Benchmark program for a comparative test of the tablet's performance.

As can be seen from the screenshots, the AnTuTu rating is 6478 , which is considered unsatisfactory for modern realities. But you still need to take into account the cost of the tablet, which is much lower than any higher-level device in the rating. Although the tablet’s resources are not enough to comfortably play “heavy” 3D games, it is perfect for surfing the Internet, communicating on social networks, playing multimedia content, including HD, playing “arcade time killers” and working in office applications.

As you can see from the screenshots, we have only 924MB for applications and 1.1GB for user files. This may not be enough to install “heavy” programs, so you need to swap “Internal memory” and “Memory card”:

1. Install the MicroSD memory card into the slot.

3. Then: Settings - Memory - Storage location SD card.

4. After which we have in the explorer: sdcard0 is a memory card, sdcard1 is internal memory.

Now applications will be installed directly on the memory card.

Then we will try to lighten the system and speed up the tablet, for this we need to remove unnecessary stock software and unload the RAM. First of all we need to get Root is right.

We download it to your tablet, install it using a standard explorer, after checking the box in Menu > Settings > Security > Unknown sources.

We launch the program, select the SuperSU application and click on any of the methods presented below (I used Aragorn and Gendalf), some may not work, do not despair and try another of the proposed methods, after receiving rights, reboot the tablet!

Root rights have been obtained, now you need to download an application called Root Browser (File Manager) or another similar application, we also download it to our tablet and install it.

After installing and launching the program, a window will pop up asking you for superuser rights - confirm!

Now you can safely delete it. Please note - CALM! After all, if you delete something that you yourself don’t know, then your tablet may simply not start later. To delete the desired program, you need to long-tap on its shortcut in the Root Browser, and then press Delete.

Everything is done at your own risk! System applications are located in the root of the device > system > app. Installed programs that are not in this folder can be removed using standard Android tools: Settings - Applications - Application management

Programs that can be safely removed:

  • Email
  • Gmail
  • Google +
  • Google Maps
  • Yandex.Browser
  • GetUpps!
  • Play Books
  • Play Music
  • Play Press
  • Play Games
  • Play Movies
  • Video studio
  • Hangouts
  • TalkBack
  • Youtube
  • Browser
  • News and weather
  • Change the dial tone
  • Navigation Megafon

About Root rights

Having access to the superuser profile, you get a number of features that are not available in normal operation.
First of all, obtaining Root makes it possible to remove standard applications imposed by device manufacturers, change themes and shortcuts, as well as launch specialized applications that significantly expand the capabilities of the smartphone, for example applications for creating backup copies of the entire system, etc. (usually such applications require Root -right). Experienced users can greatly modify the standard system.
Attention! All manipulations in the system with superuser rights are performed by the device owner at his own peril and risk; after changing or removing system applications supplied by the manufacturer with the device, proper operation of the device is not guaranteed!

So, after cleaning the system of unnecessary programs, the AnTuTu test results increased slightly, which in itself is good news!

Performance has increased by 631 points according to AnTuTu, the tablet subjectively seems faster.

In the next part of the review, I will analyze in detail and test everything related to communication and data transfer, namely: 2G/3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, operation in phone mode and GPS positioning.

The practice of implementing so-called camera gadgets is not new at all. Megafon can also boast of such a decision, which offers its subscribers a phone and tablet under the Megafon Login 2 brand for a promotion. In this way, the operator is trying to attract more customers, but is the choice in favor of just such a gadget always justified? We will tell you about the features of Megafon Login 2 in this publication.

Features of gadgets

The reasons why Megafon launched a line of gadgets under its own brand are quite obvious - attracting new customers. And it must be said that this goal is achievable, because for a relatively low price the client receives a fairly decent device in technical terms. Moreover, the operator itself is not involved in the production of these gadgets: for example, the Megafon Login 2 phone comes off the assembly line of the Chinese company Dongguan Huabei Electronic and Tecnology, and the tablet is manufactured to order at the facilities of Foxda Technology Industrial.

These devices have one significant drawback, although from the operator’s point of view it does not look like one. It consists in the fact that both the smartphone and the Megafon Login 2 tablet do not work with a third-party SIM card. The only option to eliminate this software limitation is firmware.

Smartphones

One of the conditions that captivates consumers with the new Megafon Login 2 is its extremely tempting price, with an eye to which the phone is positioned as an affordable device with 3G support. As part of the promotion carried out by the operator, this gadget will cost the subscriber only 2,230 rubles, of which 1,690 rubles are positioned as the cost of the device itself, and the remaining 540 are the starting capital in the account. It is worth noting that such conditions are available only when signing an additional agreement for the use of the Internet XS service from Megafon. If you don’t connect it, the price of the phone will immediately increase, to 2990 rubles.
