Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 phone: description, characteristics, test, reviews. Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830: characteristics, description, reviews On Samsung gt s5830

Samsung Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830) was officially presented by Samsung only today (at 2 a.m. Kyiv time). It is designed to strengthen the manufacturer’s position in the mid-price segment, where Samsung currently has a slight “sag.” I had the opportunity to spend a week with a pre-sale sample of this certainly interesting device. It has all the ingredients for success, but can it become as popular as the legendary Galaxy Spica model?

Excursion into history

At one time, the Android smartphone Samsung Galaxy Spica (GT-i5700) created the effect of a bomb exploding on our market and became the most popular device running the Android operating system. The “blame” for this was the excellent combination of price and characteristics, and neither some technical problems nor the uncertain situation with software updates could affect the popularity of the phone. The Galaxy Spica was quickly discontinued - both due to the technical problems mentioned above, and because the device turned out to be too successful and potentially cannibalized sales of more expensive Samsung phones, in particular, the then-upcoming bada- flagship Wave (GT-S8500). The logical continuation of the super-popular “Spoke” was a device called Galaxy 580 (GT-i5800), which, however, did not become popular because its characteristics were partially deteriorated compared to its predecessor. In particular, users were indignant about the reduced screen resolution (240x400 versus 320x480). Meanwhile, competitors were not asleep and presented very interesting Android smartphones in the same (and even lower) price category - within literally six months we saw Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini and Mini Pro, HTC Wildfire, Garmin-ASUS A10, Gigabyte GSmart G1305, LG Optimus (GT540) and finally Optimus One (P500), which is currently the most balanced and attractive offering on the market. The answer to the encroachments of competitors was a smartphone called Galaxy Ace, which is designed to return the company to leadership in the mid-price segment. The name - Ace - was probably not chosen by chance; it is such a trump card that the company pulled out of its sleeve at the decisive moment. As with the Galaxy Spica, price and specs are key, but the company has been careful in creating the phone so as not to hurt sales of its older models.

Specifications

In Galaxy Ace, the company abandoned the use of its own S3C6410 processor and chose the Qualcomm MSM7227 platform, which is a complete solution for budget smartphones. The Qualcomm MSM7227 combines an ARMv6 processor core running at 800 MHz and an Adreno 200 GPU, which currently has the most comprehensive support for Android games. The full specifications of the smartphone are as follows:

  • Ranges: GPRS/GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS/HSPA 900/2100.
  • Form factor: keyboardless monoblock.
  • Operating system: Google Android 2.2 (Froyo) with TouchWiz 3.0 interface.
  • Display: TFT, 320x480 pixels, 16 million colors, touchscreen (capacitive matrix).
  • Camera: 5 MP, autofocus, LED backlight, geotagging, video recording (320x240).
  • CPU: Qualcomm MSM7227, clock frequency 800 MHz; integrated video accelerator Adreno 200.
  • RAM: 384 MB.
  • Flash memory: 158 MB + microSDHC cards (up to 32 GB).
  • Multimedia capabilities: MP3 player, FM receiver, integration with YouTube, Find Music service (analogous to Track ID in Sony Ericsson phones).
  • Wireless technologies: Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.
  • Interface connectors: microUSB, 3.5 mm headphone output.
  • GPS: yes, A-GPS support, Google Maps support.
  • Dimensions and weight: 112x60x11 mm, 115 grams.

Appearance and design features

Personally, I categorically do not like the direction in which Samsung's design ideas are developing: with each new iteration, the phones of this respected manufacturer are becoming more and more similar to the iPhone. And don’t tell me that the touchscreen devices all look the same, this is not true: the same “Spoke” had its own and quite recognizable appearance, while the Ace looks like a Chinese knockoff of the iPhone 3GS.

At the same time, the case materials are quite good: the front panel is covered with solid glass, and the battery compartment cover is made of decent-looking glossy plastic. The only element of the case that raises concerns about the safety of its appearance is the silver-painted plastic edging.

It is worth noting that recently Samsung began to remove a separate camera button from its phones: it was absent in the Galaxy S, and it is not present in the Galaxy Ace either. In my opinion, this is unforgivable, since it makes taking photos with your phone as inconvenient as possible.

Screen

The Galaxy Ace uses a 3.5-inch TFT screen with a capacitive touch surface with a resolution of 320x480 pixels. The screen is bright and contrasty, viewing angles can be called satisfactory, but nothing more. In my opinion, the screen quality of the Galaxy Ace is somewhat inferior to that of the Optimus One. Apparently, there is an oleophobic coating, since the screen is reluctant to scratch and then wipes off easily.

There is no light sensor and, accordingly, automatic brightness adjustment.

Autonomy

The smartphone is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 1350 mAh. Autonomy is typical for most Android smartphones, that is, with heavy use and a large amount of mobile Internet traffic, it can last a maximum of one and a half to two days. Fully charging the battery from an AC charger takes about 2.5 hours; from USB, the phone charges a little slower.

Performance

Initially, I had information that the Galaxy Ace would be built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7230 chipset (800 MHz Scorpion processor core and Adreno 205 graphics processor). Unfortunately, this information has not been confirmed; the smartphone uses a “budget” Qualcomm MSM7227 solution with Adreno 200 graphics, but the processor core is overclocked to 800 MHz. In HTC Gratia and Samsung Galaxy Mini smartphones, the same processor is used at its “native” frequency of 600 MHz.

Despite the budget chipset, the phone performed well in the Quadrant and Neocore benchmarks. Just 9 months ago, such performance was available only to buyers of top Android smartphones, but today it is already the lot of middle-class solutions.

Firmware features

The phone runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system, on top of which is the proprietary TouchWiz 3.0 shell. In general, the interface differs little from other Samsung Android smartphones, for example, Galaxy S.

The Galaxy Ace finally almost corrects a long-standing problem with Samsung smartphones, namely, incomplete localization. In particular, the Cyrillic alphabet has appeared in the quick navigation bar for contacts, which allows you to quickly search for contacts with names in Russian or Ukrainian. True, the “Phone” application still does not provide for entering the Cyrillic alphabet, so if you need a T9 search for contacts, you will have to install the Dialer One application (fortunately, it is free).

You can use either the standard Samsung keyboard or Swype to enter text. In the Samsung keyboard, layouts are now switched as follows: you need to press the space bar and swipe your finger right or left. Swype also has innovations, the main one of which is support for the Ukrainian language.

The Galaxy Ace, like other Samsung Android smartphones, comes pre-installed with ThinkFree Office.

The smartphone has a very good (convenient) MP3 player and an FM receiver, which has good reception quality. Of course, there are standard Android 2.2 capabilities for connecting a mobile phone as a modem and using it as a Wi-Fi access point for distributing mobile Internet.

Camera

The Galaxy Ace uses the already familiar 5-megapixel camera module with autofocus and LED backlight. The quality of photos during the day outdoors is very good, at night and indoors it naturally drops, but overall the camera is pleasant.

But Samsung frankly clamped down on video recording: the maximum resolution of the videos is 320x240, the movement in them is frankly jerky, as if the frame rate does not exceed 15 fps (although QuickTime in the video file properties shows 25 fps). Also, note that audio recording begins approximately a second after video recording begins.

Bottom line

It’s not for nothing that Samsung called this smartphone “Ace”, oh, not for nothing. Despite the controversial design and not the highest quality screen, the Galaxy Ace is one of the most interesting offers in the price category up to 3,000 hryvnia. In terms of capabilities, it surpasses even our current favorite, the LG Optimus One, especially considering the excellent 5-megapixel camera and high performance by the standards of this price segment. In general, I recommend this device for purchase with a pure heart (although, of course, I would like to get acquainted with the “sale” sample). 6 reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy Ace:

  • high (by the standards of this category of smartphones) performance;
  • very good combination of characteristics and price;
  • high-quality camera;
  • a good set of pre-installed programs - you can start using the phone immediately after purchase;
  • Swype keyboard with support for Russian and Ukrainian languages.

3 reasons not to buy Samsung Galaxy Ace:

  • secondary design;
  • lack of a camera button;
  • poor implementation of video recording.

The Android smartphone market today is experiencing another important stage of its development; it is expanding, but now not at the expense of models in the upper price segment. The niche of top-end smartphones is becoming very crowded, so manufacturers are starting to expand their portfolio of mid-range devices. The Android smartphone S5830 Galaxy Ace from Samsung can be considered as a direct successor to the popular i5700 Galaxy Spica model, which at one time also stood out for its good price-to-functionality ratio.

Verdict

Design, build quality

Galaxy Ace has a nice design that vaguely resembles the appearance of the iPhone 4, but at the same time it is easy to recognize the style of Samsung Android smartphones. The body of the device is entirely made of plastic; there are options with a glossy or matte finish on the back cover, and it can be black or white. The device with a black gloss look is the least practical; it quickly becomes covered with fingerprints and small scratches. In general, the case has a good build, even with strong compression there is not the slightest hint of squeaking.

Display

As mentioned above, Samsung Galaxy Ace is equipped with a 3.5-inch capacitive touch TFT display, which is a kind of record for models of this class. The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass, which is scratch-resistant. In practice, this means that if the smartphone accidentally “meets” the keys in your pocket, then light abrasions may appear on the display, but not deep scratches. The screen itself has good viewing angles and a resolution of 480x320 pixels, although with such a diagonal I would like to see 800x480 pixels. In bright sunlight, the display “fades”, although the text on it remains readable.

Interface

Samsung Galaxy Ace runs the Android 2.2.1 operating system, which is complemented by the proprietary TouchWiz 3.0 interface. This shell has a number of improvements over standard Android, it provides quick access to the task manager, a default file manager, the ThinkFree office suite and the SocialHub application for working on social networks. In TouchWiz 3.0, you can flexibly customize the system menu and quick launch panel, as well as independently add or remove desktops; there can be from 1 to 7 of them. In addition to the standard Android Market, install applications in Galaxy Ace You can also from the Samsung Apps store. Otherwise, the capabilities of the smartphone correspond to the functionality of Android 2.2.1, the system supports synchronization with Google services, there is access to Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, maps and search.

Ergonomics

The device uses a minimum of hardware controls; on the front panel there is one mechanical home screen button and two touch keys for returning and calling up the menu. Also on the right side panel there is a button to turn off/lock the display, and on the left there is a volume rocker. At the top end there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a micro-USB port. Due to the enlarged display, work with Samsung Galaxy Ace convenient, there are no problems with clicking on the wrong icon or menu item. The display responds well to touch and supports Multi-Touch technology.

Performance

In terms of performance Galaxy Ace shows average results in synthetic tests. In the Quadrant test, the device scores 561 points, which is slightly higher than the Nexus One with Android 2.1. The smartphone has a Qualcomm MSM7227 processor with a frequency of 800 MHz, an Adreno 200 graphics accelerator and 278 MB of RAM. Thus, when working with menus and applications, there are no complaints about the speed of operation, but when viewing “heavy” web pages or galleries with high-resolution images, slight hitches in the operation of the device may occur. To install programs, the user has 158 MB of internal memory and the ability to use microSD cards of
up to 32 GB.

Camera

Built in Galaxy Ace The 5-megapixel camera is equipped with autofocus and LED flash. There are preset shooting modes, you can change the exposure value, white balance, ISO, contrast, saturation, sharpness, and also add various effects to the photo. The quality of photographs is at a fairly good level, as for smartphones, and largely depends on the lighting. But the video quality is not so good; shooting is only available in a resolution of 320x240 pixels.

Sample photos of Samsung Galaxy Ace

Exploitation

IN Galaxy Ace A 1350 mAh battery is installed, which provides the smartphone with a little more than a day of operation with data transfer enabled. The volume of the earpiece and ringer is at a good level, but the vibration alert can not always be felt. For now Samsung Galaxy Ace can be called one of the best Android smartphones in its class. The device has balanced characteristics and a good price/quality ratio.

The Samsung s5830 galaxy ace smartphone, which will be reviewed today, is another bestseller of the company. It is qualitatively different from its predecessors. Due to the fact that there are too many “top” smartphones, many manufacturers are trying to expand the line of mid-segment mobile devices. Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace is the direct successor to the commercially successful Samsung i5700 Galaxy Spica, which is also known for its reasonable ratio of functionality to price.

Review of the design, controls and equipment of the Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace

The Galaxy Ace smartphone has a very attractive design that is somewhat reminiscent of the appearance. However, the unique style of Samsung devices running on the Android platform remains easily recognizable. There are 2 options for the back cover - white and black. There are no complaints about the build quality.

The device is a classic monoblock design. The back cover has a corrugated surface, and the edging around the perimeter is chrome-plated. Its body is made of plastic – both matte and glossy. Thanks to the enlarged display, working is extremely convenient. The screen itself supports multi-touch and responds well to finger touch. The weight of the mobile device is light, and the design as a whole is not only ergonomic, but also organic.

The Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace smartphone has a minimal number of hardware controls. Most often, 2 touch buttons located under the display will be used. Between them is a mechanical “Home” key. On the left side panel there is a volume control button, and on the right there is a screen lock (turn off) button. At the top end there is a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, as well as a micro-USB port. On the front side there is a speaker and a proximity sensor.

The package includes a battery, charger, USB cable and a 2 GB micro-SD memory card.

Review of technical characteristics of Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace

Let's continue to study the Samsung s5830 galaxy ace smartphone, the review of which will now concern the hardware “filling”. The device supports HSDPA, GSM and GPRS/EDGE communication standards, as well as wireless services such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It runs on the Android 2.2.1 operating system.

The Qualcomm MSM7227 processor has a frequency of 800 MHz. The smartphone has 278 MB of RAM and 158 MB of internal memory. There is a slot for micro-SD memory cards up to 32 GB. There is a built-in 5 megapixel camera with flash and video recording capabilities. The physical dimensions of the device are 112.4 × 59.9 × 11.5 millimeters, weight – 113 grams. Supported Internet browser is Chrome Mobile.

The Galaxy Ace battery is lithium-ion (Li-Ion), with a capacity of 1350 mAh. This means that the device can work up to 11 hours of talk time. For comparison: a smartphone battery can only last 7 hours in a similar mode.

The touch capacitive display of the device is made using TFT technology, has a resolution of 320x480 pixels and a diagonal of 3.5 inches. It should be noted that for models of this class this is considered a kind of record. The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass, which is scratch-resistant. At the same time, the display has good viewing angles, and in bright sunlight it is able to display text quite readably.

    1. The workmanship is good. When handled with care, no scratches appeared. The buttons do not play. 2. Appearance and price. 3. Good processor. 4. Battery lasts 75 hours. Because I turn on 3G and WiFi only when necessary. 5.You can save money on a navigator for your car. But you definitely need auto-charging, because... The ZhPS eats up the battery like crazy.

    Great build! Be sure to hold it in your hands before purchasing! Thoughtful design, the flash drive can be changed without removing the cover. The side buttons are tight and not clearly visible. The screen is clear, the coating is polymer, but the transparency is very high. Touchwiz 3, coupled with Android 2.2, is a very advanced and well-thought-out shell. Very fast activation of wifi and gps, very pleasing, overall performance is excellent. High-quality external speaker and headphone output (of course in the Android communicator segment). I haven’t tested the camera seriously, but it works quickly, the flash is very good, and the focus works well. There is no separate button for photos.

    The design fits perfectly in the hand, the camera, the display, especially with the matte protective film, are just super

    Good appearance, comfortable in the hand, high-quality assembly. I like the corrugated back panel (only on black devices), the scratch-resistant screen with good image quality for its price, and the good camera. Android OS is rather an advantage - there are many applications, incl. and good free ones.

    1.Excellent phone assembly. 2. There are flash cards for 2 gigabytes. 3.- Large responsive 3.5 screen. 4.Supports Multitouch for 2 fingers. 5. Loud speaker. 6.Lack of critical glitches. 7. The vibration alert is strong. 8..Wide selection of applications. 9. Undoubtedly the Android market. 10. Terribly super back cover (black) Overall, I think the phone was a success!

    good camera, android is not bad, the screen was bright, adequate gps

    The processor is fast, the screen is quite enough, not as big as a note, it fits in your pocket

    Terrible battery, small RAM.

    2 years ago 0

    The disadvantages include, of course, the battery charge, if you use applications often, it only lasts for a day. If it’s purely for calls and somewhere on business, it will last three days. I was also disappointed by the camera, I expected great color reproduction and the quality of shooting leaves much to be desired. Previously, I had a Samsung L700 with 3.2 megapixels, it shot exactly the same and no worse...

    discharges quickly (a problem for all Android), meager equipment: memory card only 2GB, no headset, disk with software (you have to download it yourself), no Flash, no separate key on the end to launch the camera, you can’t switch tracks in a locked state either, what about I can’t say gorilla glass - I attached the film just in case, because... Many people say that the screen still gets scratched.

    When you're drunk, it's hard to type messages. You have to squint.

    Little memory, consumes a lot of battery power, weak Wi-Fi, disgusting sound in headphones. there are no more shortcomings.

    the quality is terrible, high price for nothing, in fact

    The most important thing is that the phone freezes when waking up from sleep with wifi turned on (it seems to have been fixed in 2.3.5). The processor is overclocked, there is not enough memory.

    1. Phone memory. And this is a significant disadvantage. It is very small. It will fit the bare minimum of necessary applications even for unpretentious users. Considering that there is not even a smooth increase in volume, therefore, for this trifle you need to install an application. And not all applications can be transferred to a memory card. Constant hemorrhage with saving phone memory space.
    2.WiFi. It glitches occasionally when turned on, that is, it simply refuses to turn on WiFi. It can be cured by rebooting the phone. Yes, and it falls off quite often.

    Built-in music The player is a rare crap, and its equalizer is even more crap than itself. If you listen to music, then from paid poweramp, from free mortplayer for example. Among the relative disadvantages: the plastic case, but the plastic and coatings are of very high quality. Of course, the kit comes with a bunch of unnecessary programs that cannot be removed. There is not enough memory for programs, try to use programs that are transferred to a memory card. Slightly overpriced and currently exclusive to the Euroset.

    I haven’t found any major drawbacks yet, just disappointed that the battery drains quickly
